Mid Level

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on the lives of young girls while embarking on an exciting journey of empowerment and leadership? Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York is searching for a dynamic and passionate individual to join our team as our Payroll and HR Specialist. The salary range for this role is $55,000 - $67,500.

About this Role:

As our HR Specialist, you’ll help create a workplace where people feel supported, respected, and set up to succeed—so our teams can deliver life-changing experiences for girls. You’ll lead core HR operations, including payroll for 35-40 staff members, and ensure an enjoyable and engaging workplace culture at GSNENY.

Day-to-day, this means:

  • Managing HR Operations: Oversee all parts of the employee lifecycle, including hiring, advancement, and termination, and ensure the HRIS accurately reflects all staff information.
  • Policy and Regulatory Controls: Maintain Council policy guidance and ensure the employee handbook accurately reflects regulatory changes.
  • Payroll Administration: Process biweekly payroll fully, in partnership with Finance. Support staff and supervisors in their timecard submission and approval to ensure hourly staff are paid correctly.
  • Benefits Administration: Serve as the primary point of contact for benefits at the Council. Ensure that all benefit changes are accurately reflected in Employee Navigator.
  • Recruitment: Drive end-to-end hiring processes, including job definition, candidate screening, and interview scheduling. Ensure teams are educated on effective interview and hiring practices.
  • New Hire Onboarding: Coordinate and execute a structured onboarding process for all new hires.
  • Performance Management: Ensure all staff receive developmental feedback throughout their tenure, including 90-day touchpoints, informal reviews, and formal performance reviews.
About You:

The ideal candidate has deep experience with Payroll and HR administration, and can provide responsive HR support in order to drive a positive employee experience and to retain staff. They can handle sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism, fairness, and integrity, and assess situations thoughtfully and recommend practical, compliant solutions. Additional required and preferred experience includes:

  • 5-7 years of experience independently managing HR operations.
  • Ownership over payroll processing (not just updating payroll-related information).
  • Experience using HRIS and payroll systems such as Checkwriter, ADP Workforce Now, etc.
  • Fluency with employment law for NY State.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a track record of managing processes accurately and on time.
